As a matter of fact, the World Wildlife Fund named the Bay of Samana as one of the best whale watching places in the world!

Get There Faster

After a private plane ride from Punta Cana Airport to Samana’s Arroyo Barril Airport, you will be transported to Samana Bay for your whale watching samana adventure! The excursion continues to the tropical island paradise of Cayo Levantado. You can relax on the island as you enjoy the gorgeous clear turquoise waters and smooth white sands.

The Fun Continues

Once we return to land, A delicious lunch will be served at a typical dominican ranch and after a short well deserved rest we will continue our adventure on horseback as we travel to the renowned Limon Waterfall. This majestic site in the forest of Samana features waters splashing down 52 meters from the mountain river above. Be sure to have your cameras ready!

I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing our tickets, and after reading them, I have found that most others had the same advice I have now. Be sure to follow the advice you read about what to bring on board and the possibility of being sea sick. Everyone has different experiences, but our’s was amazing! We went on January 21st with our son, which happened to be a calm, beautiful day. Since our son is obsessed with whales, we were afraid he would be disappointed if we didn’t see any. There were tons of humpback whales out that day! We got to see a bunch of dolphins that followed the boat, too. There was a humpback calf which was a special treat to see. What a sight! This trip is well worth it, enjoy!

Whale watching was amazing! We saw so many whales that my children were in awe the entire day. We also really enjoyed all the fun facts the crew had about whales and other marine life and I really appreciated how clean the boat was. If your family is looking for adventure, I’d highly recommend this.

My husband and I decided to book this tour through iHEARTDR (even though during whale season there are plenty of whale tours offered by the locals) and I’m gad we did! The tour is very ethical and they take the safeguarding of the whales very seriously. You will almost definitely see the whales since for this time of year (Jan through March) they migrate in large numbers to the Samana Bay area, but you may not be able to get very close to the action or maybe if you’re lucky enough you may see a breach right by your boat! Can’t wait to go again next year.

Hi I can’t find occidental caribe in the hotel pickup list.

Hola Sue, I have added the Occidental Grand Caribe to the drop down hotel list. =)

Is this trip suitable for seniors (70+) and young children!

9 months 5 days ago

Hola Hai,

The tour itself IS suitable for seniors and children. The only portion of the tour where you need to decide if it’s ok for them to do is the ride/walk down to the waterfall in Samana. You can ride a horse or you may walk if you prefer not to horseback ride. The walk is about 25 minutes to the fall. Once you arrive, whether by foot or horseback, you will walk down a somewhat steep stairway to the base of the fall. There is a handrail, but it can be a bit physical for some visitors.

We are planning on staying at now onyx which is a new resort. I did not see it listed in the list of hotels to be picked up at. Would we be able to be picked up from there?

10 months 19 days ago

Hola Jen, I’ve added the NOW Onyx to the hotels list so you may choose it as your pick up point when booking. Please note that hotels in Uvero Alto have a $10 p/p surcharge due to their secluded location. Hope to see you as a customer soon =)

Due to the time of year we will be choosing the “Samana Whale Watching” tour as opposed to the “Samana Explorer by Plane”. As far as I can see they both offer the SAME exact things….the only real difference seems to be the price and that you get to go whale watching….is that correct? What is included in the plane tour that is NOT included in the whale watching tour?

Most importantly, we want to know if the below is included in the whale watching tour:
“Safari trucks will be awaiting your arrival in the scenic and peaceful port town to immediately begin your adventure into the mountainous terrain of Samana. At our first stop, you will enjoy some time to taste test some of the region’s most notable produce, including juicy pineapple, mouth-watering mangos, and succulent papaya. ”

Looking forward to your reply! 🙂

Hola Arielle! Yes, the Samana by Plane tour basically becomes the Samana whale watching tour from January to March due to whale watching season. It is done by the same tour operators with some changes to accommodate the new activity. Price goes up due high demand and the fact that a new experience is added to the tour. The description paragraph that you copied above IS part of the whale watching tour as well but please note that some days instead of a safari truck a minibus might be the means of transportation and that specific menu items may change according to seasonal availability.

Hope this helps! 🙂
