I appreciate you providing some of the means of transportation if you want to get around the Dominican Republic such as renting a privately owned bus. You said that these bus companies offer cheap rates if you want to travel cross-country. This would surely benefit those who are traveling as one big family or in groups. They could even enjoy watching a film or movie inside the bus. If I were to go to the Dominican Republic, I would make sure to take this into consideration. Thanks.

Hi Peter,

You would need to make arrangements before arriving to DR for buses or minibuses. There are many companies that you can contact and book online (you’d pay online or at least make a down payment). Coco Tours or Caribbean Dream are a couple of good ones.

You mention minibuses. How would I find a minibus company? Do they just wait outside the airport or do I need to call one?

Also, for both regular buses and minibuses, how do I pay the fare? Do I just hand it to the driver or pay ahead of time? Should I make a reservation?

Hi Carl, to be honest it’s not easy to go from Punta Cana to Santiago by public transportation, You would need to head for Santo Domingo before turning north to Santiago I believe.
