Would it be better to buy a calling card and keep my Canadian cell service, or should I buy a DR sim card, have my phone unlocked, and how expensive would international calling be? Or should I just pay $10 and roam like home with my Canadian service provider?
I am not worried so much about data as I will have wifi. It’s the signifigant amount of international calling I am worried about!

I will be visiting for 2 months and wish to keep in contact with folks in the U.S., would I be able to activate at Santo Domingo or La Romana airport? If not, where else would I be able to activate a new phone line?

Be advised that the fares are more expensive while roaming.

My husband is incarcerated in the USA and he wants to call me while I am on vacation. I was wondering if he will still be able to call my regular phone # while I’m in the DR or what steps do I need to take in order to receive his jail calls.

It would be a lot cheaper!

If it’s just the digits after the area code you might find it still available here in DR but you’d have to make a contract with a local phone company, not transfer your current phone number).

If I were to top up account say every two months with 300 pesos but not use phone, would the account/number stay active
